Daggi Wallace Portrait Workshop - March 2018

Daggi Wallace
3 Day Portrait Workshop

Workshop Dates: 3/19/2018 - 3/21/2018 (offered each month, with dates TBA) 10am-4pm
Location: Studio Channel Islands Art Center, Studio C-1
2222 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo (Old Town), California 93010
(easiest to park one block north on Elm Drive, Studio C-1 is in the purple building)

In this workshop I share my technique of portrait painting in pastel on sanded paper which includes underpainting in watercolor and ink. The focus will be on seeing and painting correct proportions, values and edges. You will learn how to create vibrant skin tones with color temperature changes and layering. We will talk about the most common mistakes (such as hair and teeth for example) and how to avoid them.

Since the class size is small you will receive lots of one-on-one attention at your easel. You will leave the workshop knowing how to see the correct values, check angles and pay attention to lost and found edges in order to achieve a great likeness.

Each day I will demo the next step before you will work at your easel.

Day 1: transferring the drawing to the sanded paper followed by the ink and watercolor underpainting

Day 2: applying first layers of pastel followed by minimal blending to create rich vibrant skin tones

Day 3: finishing up with the icing on the cake, the fine details that bring your subject to life
