About Dawn

I grew up on the east coast in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and graduated from Brown University in 1977 with a BA in English and a minor in art. After a career in the Boston area as a graphic designer, I moved in 1992 to the high desert plateau of Central Oregon with my husband and two children. I taught in the public schools as an artist in residence, and began attending workshops given by pastel artists Harley Brown, Albert Handell, Sheila Reiman, and Doug Dawson. Pastel felt “like home” the first time I tried it, and my world literally changed from black and white to color. By 1997 I was winning major awards for my pastel work, and had achieved “signature member status” with the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and the American Academy of Equine Art, and “associate member status” with the Society for Animal Artists.
